The need for essential social services is significant in Abyei, with minimal coverage by the Government and external partners due to the continued conflicts that make access almost impossible. Due to its contested nature, there are some constraints on its accessibility and to provide basic needs such as education. As a result, institutions providing essential social services, including education and health facilities, have significant capacity gaps. Often, it has made it difficult to operate and provide services due to a lack of human resources, basic facilities, and supplies.
