Boreholes
Drilling started in 2003 with support from PACT Sudan and in that year 13 borehole was drilled in different villages, mainly South of Kiir River (Abyei County by then),in 2005, PACT drilled 10 boreholes, UNICEF 5 boreholes, UNDP one borehole and GOAL Ireland 4 Boreholes making total to be 20 hand pumps. Since 2006, PACT has been supporting ACAD in drilling of hand pumps and community awareness,10 boreholes were drilled in 2006,8 in 2007,10 boreholes in 2008,10 boreholes in 2009 and 13 boreholes in 2010, making total of boreholes supported by PACT through ACAD UP to date 74 productive hand pumps drilled 39 productive boreholes in Abyei Area, mostly in the South of River Kiir. ACAD had also carried out social mobilization as well as training of community village water committees to manage water resource and boreholes.
Hand Water Pumps
Abyei Recovery and Rehabilitation Program (ARRP) drilled up to date 35 hand pumps, through ACAD partnership with Save the Children USA.
Rehabilitation of hand pumps is another field that, ACAD had been supporting. So in 2005 ACAD rehabilitated 50 hand pumps in Aweil East with PACT financial support,30 hand pumps in Abyei Area in partnership with UNICEF,25 Hand pumps in 2009 in partnership with PACT Sudan and 50 hand pumps been rehabilitated through ARRP. In the period between 2011 to 21012 ACAD had implemented hand Pumps rehabilitation targeting 30 hand pumps and construction of 100 emergency latrines to IDPs and the Project was supported by Italian organization call INTERSOS which was supported by UNHCR.
